UFC champion Ronda Rousey files to trademark catchphrase

Ronda Rousey has owned opponents in the Octagon. Now she is looking to own some intellectual property.

Earlier this month, Rousey, the UFC female bantamweight champion, filed for a trademark to "Do Nothing B----." She also filed to trademark the shortened version of that phrase, "DNB."

Rousey most recently mentioned the phrase on an episode of "UFC 190 Embedded," before her 34-second, first-round win over Bethe Correia on Aug. 1.

On the show, Rousey said a "Do Nothing B----" is a woman who "tries to be pretty and be taken care of by someone else." Rousey said that she is not one, because "there's not a single muscle on my body that isn't for a purpose."

Two weeks ago, Rousey announced on her Twitter feed that she would be selling a limited edition "Don't Be A D.N.B" shirt, which featured Rousey sitting on a bed. The website where the shirts were being sold, with proceeds going to a mental health charity, stated that the goal was to sell 1,000 shirts in two weeks. By the time the sale ends on Friday, the site will have sold more than 50,000 shirts.

The trademark filings were made by Rowdy Ronda Inc., which received the registered trademark to her name in January. The company was incorporated in California in 2012 and is run by Rousey's accountant, Narek Alumyan.

The company has filed for three trademarks to the phrase "Armbarnation," nine trademarks to "Rowdy Ronda Rousey" and two more for her name with the intent to use it on apparel.

Rousey has endorsement deals with Reebok, Monster energy drink and Buffalo David Bitton. The fast food chain Carl's Jr. recently signed her, and a new spot is expected within the next two weeks.

Earlier this month, Forbes estimated that Rousey made $6.5 million in pay and endorsements from June 2014 to June 2015, the eighth-highest total by a woman athlete over that time period.

Because of her crossover appeal, Rousey's autograph has been one of the hottest selling on eBay in the last two months. In the past month, more than 60 of her signed trading cards have sold for more than $200 apiece.

Rousey, who is 12-0 in her mixed martial arts career, has beaten her last three opponents -- Correia, Cat Zingano and Alexis Davis-- in a combined 1 minute, 4 seconds.

She is also scheduled to appear on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Friday and is expected to make a major announcement.
