SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There's a new development Friday morning on the mysterious Google barge that was anchored off Treasure Island last year.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Google planned to use it as a technology showroom, but the idea has been shelved after the U.S. Coast Guard raised issues about fire safety.

The U.S. Coast Guard warned Google the barge would have more 5,000 gallons of fuel on the main deck and a substantial amount of combustible material on board.

In September of last year, a coast guard inspector wrote that more safety measures were needed in case people are forced to jump overboard.

In March, the barge was moved to the port of Stockton after San Francisco officials discovered Google did not have the proper permits.
