MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (KGO) -- Google made another major investment in renewable energy on Thursday.

The company announced it's spending $300 million on solar power to finance around 25,000 residential solar projects by SolarCity.

It's not cheap to install solar power at home, so part of Google's investment will be used to cover up-front costs on installations.

Earlier this month, Google announced plans to replace old wind turbines in the Altamont Pass.
