SAN FRANCISCO -- Regular BART service is resuming normal service after major delays caused earlier this morning by smoke reported on the tracks near the Embarcadero station, a BART spokeswoman said.
The smoke was reported around 8:05 a.m. and prompted the shutdown of one of the tracks, forcing trains to single-track into and out of San Francisco, BART spokeswoman Denisse Gonzalez said.
The smoke was cleared and regular service was resuming as of about 8:50 a.m. with residual delays of up to 30 minutes for some trains, Gonzalez said.
She said earlier reports of a small trackside fire have not been confirmed and that crews are still trying to determine what caused the smoke.
