Caltrain is working to clear tracks in Atherton and San Jose where separate incidents involving trains and cars occurred Tuesday evening, a Caltrain spokeswoman said.

Around 7:30 p.m., southbound Caltrain No. 284 struck a Toyota Prius on the tracks at Fair Oaks Avenue in Atherton, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

The vehicle was unoccupied, she said.

A tow truck has been called to the scene but is delayed due to traffic and weather conditions, the spokeswoman said.

No injuries were reported to anyone on the train and passengers exited the train at the Atherton station located at 1 Dinkelspiel Station Lane, Dunn said.

Caltrain police and personnel are at the scene.

Caltrain officials said the northbound tracks between Redwood City and Palo Alto reopened as of about 8:15 p.m., according to Dunn.

Trains were only picking up all passengers at the Redwood City, Menlo Park and Palo Alto stations on the northbound platforms, she said.

Crews need to remove the vehicle that is wedged a locomotive before the tracks are reopened, she said.

Around the same time, northbound Caltrain No. 191 struck debris from the crash, Dunn said.

Passengers on the northbound train were taken to the Atherton station to board another train, according to Dunn.

An inspection conducted to the northbound train indicated that it did not sustain damage, she said.

Southbound Caltrain No. 274 with 19 passengers was stuck before the Blossom Hill station in San Jose due a vehicle on the tracks that stopped, stopping southbound service past the site, Caltrain officials said on Twitter at 7:55 p.m.

Union Pacific Railroad owns the tracks where the incident occurred and inspected the tracks, Dunn said.

The vehicle there has since been removed, Dunn said.

As of about 8:30 p.m., Caltrain No. 274 was moved to the Blossom Hill station located at 5560 Monterey Highway where passengers boarded off and awaited a bus from the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority to take them to their final destinations, Dunn said.

The train had been scheduled to reach Gilroy by 7:51 p.m., the spokeswoman said.

As of 8:40 p.m., Caltrain No. 274 resumed normal service but was delayed by an hour and 20 minutes, according to Dunn.

As of 8:54 p.m., the incidents had delayed southbound Caltrain No. 288 by an hour, southbound Caltrain No. 190 by 24 minutes and northbound Caltrain No. 193 by 41 minutes, she said.
