Crews removing Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza clock

Crews are removing the famous 8-foot art deco toll plaza block at the Golden Gate Bridge.
Crews are temporarily removing the famous 8-foot art deco toll plaza clock at the Golden Gate Bridge to prepare for January's planned installation of a movable median barrier.

The clock will be refurbished and reinstalled in October after the toll plaza work is done.

The $30 million barrier was debated for decades as a way to prevent head-on collisions.

It will require a weekend closure in early January for the final installation.

On Thursday and Friday night, the northbound curb lane will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. to accommodate modifications to the toll plaza.
