All northbound and southbound lanes on Highway 1 through the Tom Lantos tunnels, more commonly known as the Devil's Slide tunnels, will be closed during the emergency response drill. Officials say during this exercise, there will be a fire simulation, crash simulation and simulated smoke.

The CHP and local law enforcement, fire departments and emergency services are preparing for an incident like this one. A car crash led to a fire in the Caldecott Tunnel in March of this year, 50 people had to abandon their cars while emergency crews put out the flames. The tunnel was closed for several hours.

Detours will be in place for tonight's closure of the Devil's Slide tunnels. From Pacifica, drivers will go north on Highway 1 and take southbound 280. From Half Moon Bay you'll go east on 92 onto northbound 280.
