Fruit from big-rig spill donated to Oakland Zoo
Thousands of pounds of fruit that spilled across the freeway after a big-rig overturned isn't going to waste -- it's been donated to the Oakland Zoo.

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Thousands of pounds of fruit that spilled across the freeway after a big-rig overturned on Monday are not going to waste.

Elephants, bears, and giraffes at the Oakland Zoo are now feasting on fruit donated from the incident on Interstate 580 in Livermore.

It's a nutritional bonanza for the animals. They've been busy eating bananas and a prickly tropical treat called jackfruit.

In fact, there's so much to go around that zookeepers are thinking about freezing some of the fruit to make popsicles.
