SONOMA COUNTY, Calif (KGO) -- A North Bay man, who did not stop when a park ranger tried to pull him over, died after driving off a cliff on Highway 1.

Crews spent Monday retrieving the car.

It plunged Sunday around 9:30 p.m.

The driver was a 46-year-old from Cazadero in Sonoma County.

A ranger tried to pull him over for mechanical violations. He sped up and ended up hitting a milepost marker and then careening off a 75-foot cliff into the water.
