Parents upset Super Bowl City blocking access to neighborhood park

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- For all the excitement of next week's Super Bowl festivities, there may be some trying moments as well, especially for people living on the fringes of Super Bowl City. One particular issue is a children's playground.

It's a quiet neighborhood, but not for long. On the fringe of Super Bowl City, a place where starting next week, the gravity of events will either pull a person in, or set him on the run.

Adam Bergman, who lives nearby, worries about noise, crowds and getting his family in and out every day. "I can't leave. I have two kids in school," he said.

For neighbors, it's the quandary brought on by proximity. Nobody asked them if they wanted to have Super Bowl City next door.

Bergman's wife Julia met with us in what has become a particularly sore spot, the children's playground in Sue Bierman Park.

"It is something we did not want. The Super Bowl is not in our city. No benefit to us where we are," said Julia Bergman

Most days, it's one of the busiest playgrounds in the city. Next week, if parents want to use, they'll need to pass through the same security as everyone else. Parents aren't not happy about it.

"A public park should be accessible for the public to use unless there is something wrong with it," said Chanda Williams, a parent.

The Super Bowl committee spokesman Nathan Ballard said "safety is our number one priority. Our security policies, including requiring everyone that enters Super Bowl City to go through security, are designed to ensure the safety of neighbors and visitors alike."

So this is what happens when a children's playground becomes immersed inside a new one designed for adults.
