Tanker ship that caught fire along Oregon Coast towed to Port of SF

A disabled tanker ship was towed into the Port of San Francisco Wednesday.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A disabled tanker ship that experienced a deadly fire in its engine room at sea has arrived in the San Francisco Bay.

Commercial tug boats and the United States Coast Guard guided "Pine Galaxy," the mixed-products tanker under the Golden Gate and into the Port of San Francisco Wednesday morning.

A fire broke out in the vessel's machinery shop, in the engine room, earlier this month. When it was about 700 miles from the Oregon Coast.

A crew member died trying to fight the fire. He was buried at sea.
