AT&T Park transformed for new film starring 'The Rock'

SAN FRANCISCO -- The actor Dwayne Johnson, better known as the Rock, is in San Francisco this week filming scenes for the upcoming action flick, "San Andreas," according to a spokeswoman for the San Francisco Film Commission.

On Monday, the crew and cast for the film, which is about a man trying to save his family in California after a massive earthquake hits, were shooting scenes outside AT&T Park, film commission spokeswoman Lauren Machado said.

She said there was a lot of debris strewn around the stadium today for filming, which is fitting for an action film about the aftermath of an earthquake along the San Andreas Fault.

The fault line, which runs along the length of the state, ruptured in both the destructive 1906 San Francisco and 1989 Loma Prieta earthquakes in the Bay Area.

Machado said filming for the disaster film is scheduled to last until Sunday.

On Tuesday, there will be scenes filmed at Hyde and Lombard streets in the city's Russian Hill neighborhood that include roughly 300 extras.

The crew will be in Russian Hill again on Wednesday before some filming inside a stage set for a few days in San Francisco, Machado said.

Filming will continue Saturday near the Fairmont Hotel at 950 Mason St. and the last day in San Francisco will grab iconic shots on California Street in the Financial District, she said.

Co-star Carla Gugino, known for her roles as the mother in the "Spy Kids" series and as a ruthless agent in the long-running HBO series "Entourage," is also in the city filming for her role, Machado said.

Although the movie takes place in California, Machado said some filming has been in Canada and Australia. Other filming locations include other parts of the state.

"They are here for the beauty shots," Machado said about the production's 17-day stint in San Francisco.

The movie, directed by Brad Peyton, who has worked with the Rock in other films such as the 2012 sequel, "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island," is due for release in the U.S. in June 2015.

Machado said the director said he was excited to be in California, where the action takes place.

The Rock, a 42-year-old Hayward native, posted a photo on Twitter Saturday night with the caption, "Just touched down - San Francisco. Struttin' & cuttin' right to the gym. #NoFannyPacks #PlaceOfBirth #HaywardStrong."
