Bay Area residents brace for winter temperatures
Winter temperatures are set to hit the Bay Area later this week and residents are preparing themselves for the cold snap.

OAKLAND (KGO) -- Temperatures are expected to drop the rest of this week.

Customers are coming into Navlet's Nursery in Pleasant Hill, not just to buy plants but to protect them. There's a run on two popular items, a spray that provides a frost barrier and a blanket

"It works pretty good. When I haven't used it, I've paid the price by losing my flowers," customer Bill Herrera said.

Steven Wexler says it might actually be too late for the spray that provides a frost barrier, it needs to go on a week before a cold snap, but the protective cover works well.

"It's lightweight enough you can leave it on for days," Wexler said.

For people trying to heat up their homes, it's important to check that the furnace is maintained and working. The guys at Walnut Creek Heating and Air Conditioning were on job number three of the day.

"We have a lot of people calling for tune ups, or like, the young lady has no heat," Stefan Opperman said.

Hope Dick has been without heat for three days.

Dick said she can't do anything about the cold, but she can make sure her furnace is in working order.

At the ACE Hardware in Lafayette, space heaters are in demand and have been since that rain storm earlier this month.

"People are coming in looking for heat, warmth, blankets, stuff like that they can keep on hand," said Crystal Sandiforth of ACE Hardware.

Winter is here and now it will finally feel like it.
