LIVERMORE, Calif. (KGO) -- The hundred-degree weather made for an uncomfortable day for just about everyone, but more so for two high school teams playing football in the East Bay Thursday night.
It was 110 degrees at 5:30 p.m. when Granada High School's freshmen kicked off to Walnut Creek's Las Lomas High. The synthetic turn is said to add 10-15 degrees of heat.
Parents and coaches were watching the players carefully and encouraging them to stay hydrated and take their helmets off on the sidelines. Some players were using cooling towels that activate when dampened and snapped.
Coaches even said they are getting players to start hydrating as early as two days before a game like this one.
