A North Bay woman says she feels like "divine intervention" saved her during Tuesday's wind storm. A tree smashed onto her home, barely missing her.

There's nothing like a windy last day of the year to ring in the new and out the old; unless it includes a fallen tree, like the one that fell on Luana Larson's home on Vintage Street in Napa.

"It was a very big shock," she said. "It is hard still for me to believe what it has done to my house."

Larson is just a few months shy of 90 years old. A falling coastal redwood bisected her home on Tuesday. Neighbor Joshua Chen saw it come down.

"Like a slow motion movie," he said.

Looking through the glass at the damage inside, you can see where she was just before it hit.

So what made her move out of the way at the last minute? She says it wasn't luck.

"The Lord looked after me," Larson said. "I know that's what happened. The Lord moved me."

Her home and three others in the neighborhood remained red-tagged on Wednesday afternoon, including one owned by Maria Perez. It's her tree that fell.

"The trees were there since we bought the house," she said.

Perez had already removed several other trees at great cost. Now, the other spar of the redwood must come down, too. No way to tell without inspecting, said tree expert Bill Dobbs. It's rotten.

"In my opinion, there is a potential hazard at this point right here," he said.

In with the new, out with the old. And not soon enough around here.

"I said -- thank God 2014 is gonna leave and never come back again," Perez said.
