Extreme heat moves through Bay Area, across U.S.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- It's not just hot in the Bay Area. Extreme heat is blanketing much of the country.

The heat index in many places topped triple digits, making it a dangerous day for millions.

The unrelenting heat in some places was more than a 100 degrees.

So far, the scorching heat is being blamed for at least 11 deaths, including a 12-year-old in Phoenix and a 3-year-old in Dallas this weekend.

On Monday, there is still no relief for millions.

In Washington D.C., Metro officials took to Twitter saying to "expect system-wide delays because of high track temperatures."

On Philadelphia, the city kept cooling centers and misting tents open for the tens of thousands attending and protesting the Democratic National Convention.

In California, strong winds on top of the triple digit temperatures are still fanning more than two dozen wildfires across 10 states that are threatening thousands of homes and forcing thousands of families to seek shelter.
