HAPPY CAMP, Calif. (KGO) -- Crews battling a wildfire in a far Northern California forest have expanded a mandatory evacuation order and expect another day of gusty winds and dry conditions that could push the fire over containment lines and into threatened communities.

Fire information officer Vickie Wright says the blaze in the Klamath National Forest grew by about 8 square miles overnight and had burned through about 112 square miles as of Wednesday morning. Additional homes were placed under mandatory evacuation orders the previous evening, though Wright did not know exactly how many.

About 250 homes around the community of Hamburg are under evacuation orders, with nearly 750 threatened.

Wind gusts of up to 15 mph are expected on Wednesday and could again push embers into threatened communities. Fire crews a day earlier knocked down spot fires that put homes in serious danger.
