BRENTWOOD, Calif. (KGO) -- The temperatures reached over 100 degrees in some areas in the Bay Area Wednesday. In Brentwood, it reached 102 degrees.
The football team at Freedom High School participated in a modified practice since it was so hot. Throughout Contra Costa County, both man and his best friend were trying to escape the heat.
The dog "Patches" knows how to deal with the dog days of summer, by taking a dip in the kiddy pool at the Contra Costa Animal Services center in Martinez.
Victoria Gutierrez recently adopted her new dog "Joey" who's coming home to temperatures in the triple digits. She said, "We usually just give them ice as a treat and they just chew it up. They love it."
Gutierrez would never leave her pets in the car, but Animal Services says many people do which is why they're trying to get new warning posters in windows at shopping centers.
Sgt. Doug Devries, from the Contra Costa County Animal Services, says the posters are "a reality check. It's like, 'Hey, wait a minute. Wow, remember the dog."
Many people went to the Sun Valley Mall in Concord to enjoy the 60 degree temperatures indoors.
A water balloon fight at Freedom High School in Oakley is part of making incoming freshman comfortable during a two day orientation.
"Everything that we do is team-building and getting the students to know each other," Dana Johnston from the Freedom High School Activities Center said.
Water balloons are also just fun because both man and beast deserve some relief from the heat.
