Rain causes work disruption for some in South Bay
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Today's rain is definitely having an impact on certain jobs in San Jose and one company had top send some employees home.
Rain definitely decides who's going to work and who gets sent home at A.J. Auto Detailing. This long-time San Jose enterprise does 100 cars a day in good weather. When it rains, half or more of the 40 employees are sent home, which impacts their paychecks. The forecast is one detail they can't overlook.

"We pretty much look at it pretty closely every single day, especially in the rainy season, so that way we have an idea and we do a game plan of the days ahead," said Alex Bonilla of A.J. Auto Detailing.
Getting wet has a way of putting a damper on some people's attitude and mood at work.
"It puts you in a bad mood sometimes. You walk in and you're all wet. It's not a pleasant way to start the day," said Phuc Le, a downtown San Jose worker.

Despite the rain, Palo Alto is launching a new water conservation campaign. Mayor Pat Burt wants residents to sign an online pledge to save water. The website mywaterpledge.com is having a friendly contest among cities.
"We are coming off of a tail of a four-year drought, so we have some pretty dry conditions, and there's a possibility that the drought may last much longer beyond this year," said Catherine Elvert of the city of Palo Alto utilities.
This is the same city that promoted residents to remove their water dependent lawns and replace them with drought-resistant landscaping. Climate researchers say drought cycles are likely to be more common in California.
