The Bay Area is waking up to widespread showers and bulk of the system is expected to fall during the morning commute. There is a possibility of an isolated thunderstorm in the North Bay this afternoon. It will be dry tonight and through the weekend.

Some of the heaviest rain fell in the South Bay Thursday morning leaving behind slick roads and difficult driving.

The showers and drizzle hit the Santa Cruz Mountains overnight and once the cars hit the road for the morning commute there was chaos.

There were several accidents on Northbound Highway 17. ABC7 News reporter Matt Keller spotted one of those accidents, an overturned car, at around 8:45 a.m. on southbound Highway 17 just past Bear Creek Road. The California Highway Patrol reported no injuries in that crash.

About 45 minutes later, another car overturned near that same location. The CHP reported minor injuries.

While the rain increased the danger on the roads it has decreased the fire danger, at least for now.

Cal Fire Capt. Eric Gomberg says the wet weather is great for Thursday but he's not letting his guard down.

The agency says if you're going to mow your lawn, make sure to do it today. The weather will heat up again and the high fire danger will turn to extreme fire danger soon.

Some residents were happy to see some rain, but want to see more.

"All the fires that are going on in Northern California are just scary, yeah delighted," said Joanne, a Los Gatos resident. "It can rain for two weeks. I don't care. Maybe three, maybe a month. Fill Lexington (Reservoir), that's my job."
