A Spare the Air Alert will be in effect Friday through Sunday as air quality is expected to be poor in the Bay Area.

A high pressure system responsible for the Santa Ana Winds in Southern California is to blame for our poor air quality, as it's trapping pollutants in our region.

Bay Area Air Quality Management District officials told our media partner, the San Jose Mercury News, that our poor air quality will result from local smoke, dust and car and factory emissions unable to disperse.

However, officials said the smoke will be nothing like the thick smoke we saw across the Bay Area during the North Bay Wildfires.
