New evidence shows Bay Area has reached full employment

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- There's new evidence Monday morning of just how much the Bay Area job market is booming. Economists say the region has reached full employment and the rest of the state should soon follow.

Full employment means virtually everyone who's able to work has a job.

The UCLA Anderson Forecast released numbers for all nine local counties.

A quick sample shows unemployment in Santa Clara County is around 4 percent. It's even lower in San Mateo County - just over 3.5 percent.

Economists chalk it up, in part, to the tech boom.

The statewide unemployment rate stands at 6.1 percent and experts say that's likely to shrink soon.

They predict the Golden State will reach full employment by the middle of next year.
