MENLO PARK, Calif. (KGO) -- A good-bye gathering is taking place Wednesday night in Menlo Park to bid farewell to a favorite eatery.

Fans of Foster's Freeze lined up during the day for one last meal at the fast food restaurant, which is closing after 65 years.

ABC7 News was there as long-time customers ordered their last chocolate dipped soft-serve cone.

The restaurant has been owned by Sung and Boo Lee for three decades.

"We know the whole family. It is a family place. The whole community is going to miss them. And it is sad for Menlo Park to lose another local favorite," customer Kim Lee said.

"Probably, like lots of parents, I assumed I would come here with my kids and turns out this is the only opportunity I will have to do it," customer Tom Fogarty said.

The restaurant will close to make way for a retail development. The Lees will hold a farewell celebration from 5-7 p.m. in the Foster's Freeze parking lot. Yes, with free soft-serve.

There are still several Foster Freeze restaurants in the East Bay.
