7 On Your Side helps woman get refund for poor quality memorial bracelets

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Silicone wristbands are a great way to show support for a person or a cause. One woman created wristbands to memorialize her sister when she died, however it was not the fitting tribute that she wanted.

The idea was to have a meaningful keepsake for those mourning the loss of her sister. However, she was so upset about the quality of the wristband that she didn't want to give them out.

Raquel Cummings is still grieving the loss of her twin sister, Vicky. "Just like any siblings we talked every day, you miss that," she said.

Cummings holds onto the memories. "She loved the Giants and Elvis."

Vicky was a big fan of the San Francisco Giants and was practically a fixture at AT&T Park. "When she got to the park first she had to greet all the ushers because she knew them all by name, they all knew her," Cummings said.

Cummings organized a memorial gathering to reflect her sister's passions. "Everybody came decked out in Giants gear," she said.

She also had ordered commemorative wristbands, but that didn't go so smoothly. "There was a flashing sign that said 80 percent off," Cummings said.

Cummings found the deal on WB Promotions. For $196 she would get 250 wristbands with Vicky's name and dates in bold orange print, but when the bands came they were a disappointment. "The letters weren't filled in all the way and they were very flimsy and this was supposed to honor her, not degrade her," Cummings said.

Cummings asked the company to re-do them. "Their answer was there's nothing wrong with the wristbands, you're stuck," she said.

WB Promotions said she'd have to pay extra for new bands, but she disputed the charge on her credit card instead and the company refused the refund. "It wasn't a huge amount, but it was the principle," Cummings said.

7 On Your Side found several similar complaints online about WB Promotions, so we contacted the company.

WB Promotions eventually agreed to a refund, but nothing came. We kept asking and months later, the credit appeared on her account. "I couldn't believe it," Cummings said.

WB Promotions did not provide a statement for this story.

Cummings ended up ordering wristbands from another company so her sister could be properly remembered. "I said this is for you, Vick," Cummings said.

Cummings says do research before you buy from a little-known online retailer.

Websites may look appealing but you should read reviews first and check it out with the Better Business Bureau.
