WASHINGTON (KGO) -- President Obama welcomed the U.S. Women's Soccer Team to the White House on Tuesday, celebrating their World Cup victory.

Obama received a team jersey.

The U.S. defeated Japan in the finals, taking the top prize in women's soccer for the first time in 16 years.

The president told the team they inspired the country and changed people's perceptions of what it means to "play like a girl."

"Playing like a girl means you're a bad ass. Perhaps I shouldn't have used that phrase," Obama said to laughs and claps.

Of course, what's a celebration without a selfie? The president joined the entire squad in taking one big group picture.
