Anonymous donor drops valuable gold coin in Salvation Army collection kettle
Mishawaka, IN (KGO) -- A valuable gold coin was wrapped in a $100 bill along with a message and dropped into a Salvation Army collection kettle by an anonymous donor to help those in need this holiday season.
It's not the first time someone has dropped a gold coin into the kettle each of the past few years.

The coins always come with a message. "Every year the person who puts the gold coin in sends a message along and the message was something like: 'A nation can't kill its way to peace.' So, obviously at this time of year we want to bring peace to people through God and that there's hope in doing that," Salvation Army employee Karl Blessing said.
Salvation Army officials said the coin was minted in South Africa and is worth about $1,200.
