SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Hundreds of new laws take effect Friday in California.

Among the most controversial is the one requiring students entering the public school system to get the full vaccine schedule, no personal beliefs exemptions.

Also, state colleges and K-12 schools are now gun-free zones, even to concealed-carry license holders.

There are also new laws regulating medical marijuana and ones helping terminally ill patients hasten their deaths.
