Driver uninjured after tree falls onto car on Oakland's Highway 13

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A storm that moved through the Bay Area Saturday, caused power outages and downed trees.

One of the biggest impacts the storm had was on a 200-foot-tree that came down onto a car and across both lanes of state Highway 13 in Oakland. "There was a driver still trapped inside his vehicle. My partner along with other motorists go to extract the driver out of his vehicle. They broke branches out to get the driver out. He was uninjured," California Highway Patrol Ofc. Daniel Ramirez said.

The CHP officer said the driver of the Camaro spotted the tree falling and didn't know if he should have sped past it or slammed on the breaks.

In the end, the driver decided to stop and got caught under the tree.

Southbound lanes were closed for about three hours until Cal Trans crews arrived to cut the tree apart.

Rain-soaked tree roots were a problem across the Bay Area. Crews cut apart another tree that fell on part of an on ramp onto the I-880 freeway in Hayward.

On the Great Highway in San Francisco, drivers were squeezed down to one lane because of flooding.
