SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (KGO) -- The Heavenly Mountain Resort is reporting very prosperous snowpack totals for January.

Thanks to the very snowy start to the year in the Sierra, the snowpack reached 177 percent of the historic average reached in 1995.

The California Department of Water Resources says the number may be even higher, they expect to release an official report Thursday.

Despite all of the moisture, it's not likely that the governor will change the state's emergency drought declaration until April when the full winter season is over.
