2014 was a dangerous year for America's law enforcement officers.

The annual report by the nonprofit National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund found that 50 officers were shot and killed on duty last year, while 15 of them were killed in ambush assaults.

Overall, the number of police officer killed on the job was up 56 percent from 2013.
