Alfred Angelo bridal shop files for bankruptcy, closes stores nationwide
ABC's Marci Gonzalez reports on the bridal shop that is infuriating many future brides.

WASHINGTON -- Bridal gown retailer Alfred Angelo shut down all its stores across the country at the close of business Thursday and has filed for bankruptcy protection.

They operate more than 60 Alfred Angelo Bridal Signature Stores in the U.S., and the stores gowns and dresses are also sold at more than 1,400 wholesale stores world-wide, including many across the New York area.

Brides were in for a surprise when they were met with locked doors at Alfred Angelo stores and a sign reading: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will only be open to customers who are picking up their orders."

On social media, some worried brides-to-be expressed concern about their dress orders.

In Houston, brides were able to pick up their dresses, but they will have to find someone else to make the proper alterations. But for brides who made a deposit on a dress, there's no guarantee they'll get their money back.

The company is reportedly trying to ship items that were already paid for, but there's no guarantee those items will arrive by a certain date. Employees at Alfred Angelo's corporate office in Delray Beach, Florida left the building on Thursday. The company has been around since 1933.

The office of Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is in touch with Alfred Angelo, and officials recommend that consumers file complaints on the agency's website. https://ag.ny.gov/consumer-frauds/Filing-a-Consumer-Complaint
