Suspect arrested after gunshots fired near Campbell police
A suspect has been arrested after gunshots were fired when Campbell police arrived to the scene of a reported prowler in a residential neighborhood.

CAMPBELL, Calif. (KGO) -- Police in Campbell responded to a prowler call and arrived to hear gunshots.

Police say the man fired a handgun in a side yard of one of the homes on Cypress Lane, which is close to the PruneYard Shopping Center. Police say he then jumped down into the Los Gatos Creek area. He was eventually spotted by CHP officers lying on the ground.

Officers shut down southbound Hwy 17 at Hamilton Avenue during the standoff. Eventually the man was arrested. Amazingly no one was injured. But this was a frightening night for people in this neighborhood.

First the gunshots around midnight and then a robo-call went out telling them shelter-in-place, lock their doors and windows and call police if they see any suspicious people. The shelter-in-place was lifted around 4 a.m.

Police are investigating what this man was doing in the yard. Bullet holes were found, along with shell casings.

Campbell police said they will remain at the scene to search for more casings.
