OAKLAND, Calif. -- Oakland police Wednesday asked for the public's help in identifying a suspect in the fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian in North Oakland in April.
Police said 68-year-old William Hoch Jr. was crossing the street westbound in the 5000 block of Telegraph Avenue in Oakland's Temescal neighborhood at about 7:34 a.m. on April 26 when he was struck by a passing motorist in the southbound lanes of traffic.
According to information provided to police at the scene, the driver who hit Hoch got out of his vehicle to check on him briefly, but then got back into his vehicle and drove off.
The suspect was possibly driving a white Audi or Infiniti SUV, according to police.
Oakland police said anyone with information about the case should call Sgt. Lisa Ausmus in their traffic investigation unit at (510) 777-8540.
Oakland police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the driver in the case.
