It's World AIDS Day and several events have been scheduled across the Bay Area in honor of it.
9 a.m. Students from San Francisco's Harvey Milk Civil Rights Academy will honor those who have died of AIDS by inscribing their names in chalk on Castro Street. Starts with a gathering in the academy's school yard at 9 a.m., followed by students going to their classrooms, and then followed at 10 a.m. By the "inscribe" event.
10 a.m.: Presentation at Strut San Francisco, 470 Castro St. San Francisco, followed by inscribe event on the 400 and 500 blocks of Castro Street, San
11:30 a.m.: World AIDS Day observation. Includes a keynote address by former president Bill Clinton. National AIDS Memorial Grove, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco
Noon: San Francisco City Hall rotunda dance series event with Nicaragua Danza and Hijos Del Maiz, featuring dances from the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of Nicaragua. Rotunda, City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco
Noon: Red Ribbon Flag raising event at San Jose City Hall for World AIDS Day, followed by a 1 p.m. AIDS memorial quilt viewing, and a 6 p.m. candlelight vigil. Sponsored by the Getting to Zero Initiative, the Health Trust and others. City Hall, 200 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose
5 p.m. Commemoration of world aids day by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Oakland's LGBTQ Community Center and the Bay Area State of Emergency Coalition. LGBTQ Community Center, 3207 Lakeshore Ave., Oakland
