SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Firefighters have been very busy putting out fires along Hwy 680 in San Jose. There are concerns they could be the work of an arsonist.

The first fire erupted Saturday morning and it was the first of 12 fires that day. There were another 5 or 6 fires Sunday. Two more fires were reported Monday morning.

The fires happened along southbound 680, near the border of San Jose and Milpitas.

A homeowner who lives off of Capitol Avenue told ABC7 News he witnessed one of the fires Saturday night. It broke out on the other side of the sound wall that separates his backyard from the freeway.

He said he grabbed his garden hose -- just in case. It's not the first time he's seen fire there. The stretch of freeway is peppered with homeless encampments.

The CHP is investigating the fires.

A spokesperson said the information they have so far indicates the fires were set intentionally.

Investigators have talked with witnesses.

No arrests have been made.
