The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is pledging $3.2 million as part of a new campaign to save Monarch butterflies.
Monarch populations have dropped by 90 percent over the last two decades and federal officials are considering putting the butterfly on the endangered species list.
The Washington Post reports other species, including one once native to the San Francisco area, have vanished over the years.
