EAST OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Oakland released a photo on Tuesday of the weapon a man was carrying when officers shot and killed him on Friday.

They say the 29-year-old was holding a knife when he lunged at his mother and police.

One officer opened fire and the man was killed.

Police say three officers were there - an 8 year veteran, a training officer and a recently sworn-in officer completing the field training program.

The senior officer is the one who fired.

The man's mother told police her son had made a comment about committing suicide by forcing officers to shoot him.
