Curry exits with injury, should be fine for Game 1

NEW ORLEANS -- Golden State Warriors star Stephen Currywas injured early in Tuesday night's 112-103 win over the New Orleans Pelicansbut is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the playoffs this weekend, coach Steve Kerr said.

The Warriors initially called the injury a mild foot sprain, but Kerr labeled it a sprained ankle when he met with reporters after the game.

"He's in there icing it," the coach said. "We think he's going to be fine. He tweaked it, but we weren't going to mess around."

Kerr reiterated that Curry will "probably" sit out Wednesday's regular-season finale against the Grizzlies.

Curry did not address the media after the game but appeared to be in good spirits as he got ready to leave the locker room.

The noncontact injury occurred with 3:21 left in the first quarter when Curry lost control; it appeared that his ankle and foot turned underneath him. He stayed in the contest for a little while, but after hitting a jumper with 2:43 left in the quarter, he asked the bench to take him out of the game and went straight to the locker room to get checked out with Warriors medical personnel.

The injury came at Smoothie King Center, the same building where Curry turned his right ankle on Dec. 4, 2017, and then had to miss almost a month.

Kerr said after Sunday's home win over the LA Clippers that his rotational players would not play both ends of Tuesday and Wednesday's back-to-back.

Kevin Durant (flu), Klay Thompson (right knee soreness), Andre Iguodala (toe) and Andrew Bogut (rest) did not play against the Pelicans.
