Dozens protest plan to possibly limit visitors to Golden Gate National Recreation Area

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Dozens of people demonstrated in downtown San Francisco Wednesday outside the offices of the National Park Service.

They are upset the agency recently adopted a new general management plan for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The demonstrators worry the plan will limit visitors to Ocean Beach, Muir Woods and restrict off-leash dogs at Fort Funston.

"They're saying that public access can be restricted and that recreation isn't even a guiding principle of the plan," Andrea Buffa of Save Our Recreation said. "We're speaking out with a loud voice to say this isn't OK."

The National Park Service told ABC7 News that the management plan only provides a broad vision for the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Public hearings are still planned on dog use areas and a final decision won't be made until early next year.
