SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Big changes coming to a San Jose landmark, where overnight stays will be allowed for the first time.

The city approved an overnight permit for the Winchester Mystery House and will allow alcohol to be served there.

The 160-room mansion was built by the widow of the heir to the Winchester Rifle fortune.

She believed the house would protect her from the spirits of those killed by the rifle.

No word yet on when overnight stays will begin.
