FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- A Fremont woman was already in remission a year after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She moved quickly to resume her personal training at a health club.
For this cancer patient, exercise is an escape and a chance to interact with others outside of work, but a mix-up nearly put a halt to those plans.
Barbara Swint enjoys working out to reduce her stress and stay fit. She also likes feeding off the energy of other fitness buffs with similar goals. Swint had beat breast cancer and had reconstructive surgery. Her surgeon finally cleared her to exercise back in February.
"She shook my hand and said, 'You're good to go.' I said, oh yeah," Swint said.
Swint had prepaid for 38 personal training sessions with Bally's, but couldn't use them during her year of cancer treatments. By the time her care was completed, Bally's had sold its remaining clubs to 24 Hour Fitness.
"When they looked up my contract in the computer, it said I had 12 sessions and I said, wait a minute," Swint said.
Swint told 24 Hour Fitness she had three times that many sessions left. They promised to get back to her. She finally got a hold of someone in corporate, but they couldn't help. That's she contacted 7 On Your Side and we contacted 24 Hour Fitness. Shortly thereafter, its member services contacted Swint.
"In a couple of mouse clicks, all my sessions were restored," Swint said.
24 Hour Fitness said Swint's challenging path back to health is inspirational and they are pleased with the opportunity to support her in her fitness journey.
