SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Having a hard time shopping for someone on your holiday list? Seven On Your Side's Michael Finney has shopping suggestions for gifts unique to San Francisco.

When scouring for presents, people generally go online, to the mall, or downtown, but some of the best shopping can be found at museums.

The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art may be closed for renovation, but its gift store, just a block away, is still open. Unique gifts are easy to come by. One top seller there is a laser-cut wood lamp and the man who designed it is from San Francisco. The price, $190. For those looking for something a bit more affordable there is a re-chargable bottle stopper that turns a wine bottle into a lamp. At only $16 it could make a great stocking stuffer.

At the San Francisco Railway Museum on Steuart Street the city's historic street cars are the center of attention and you can actually buy a piece of that history. Before Muni used electronic signage they had paper signs, and the museum has some of those for sale.

"We were lucky to receive some of them and we cut them up and are offering them as an interesting item for sale," said Alison Cant of the San Francisco Railway Museum.

Michael Finney: "So that is a piece of history of the rail way. How much is it?

Alison Cant: "This one is $14.95."

There are others selling for less, along with other street car merchandise.

The Cable Car Museum located in the Washington/Mason Cable Car Barn and Powerhouse. offers shoppers the types of souvenirs sold throughout the city, but they have so much more. You can buy an actual cable car bell, if you want to spend several hundred dollars, or smaller versions for much less. Also for sale are items made from real cables, now retired.

And if you are heading out of town and need a gift, the Museum of Modern Art has a store at the San Francisco International Airport.
