CoCo DA official shoots suspect during attempted arrest

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- A Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office inspector shot a suspect at a hotel near Oakland International Airport late Monday night, according to Oakland police.

Two senior inspectors, a man and a woman, went to serve a court order subpoena and make felony arrest. When the suspect ran, the inspectors chased the suspect and there was a physical fight.

During the fight the suspect pulled out a gun. The male inspectors shot the suspect twice in the leg. The suspect is at highland hospital in critical.

The shooting was reported at 10:26 p.m. at the Hilton Oakland Airport hotel at 1 Hegenberger Road.

There were three felony warrants for the suspect's arrest, including one for possession of a stolen vehicle, Contra Costa County Deputy District ttorney Barry Grove said.

Neither inspector was injured in the incident and the suspect's firearm was recovered from the scene, police said.

Grove said the two inspectors involved in the incident both have more than 10 years of law enforcement experience.

The shooting is being investigated by the Oakland Police Department's homicide section and the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office.
