NOVATO, Calif. -- The Novato Fire Protection District is fighting some remaining spot fires in the marshland of Bel Marin Keys in Novato Tuesday afternoon.

The 3-acre fire was reported around 1:45 p.m. at Bel Marin Keys Boulevard and Del Oro Lagoon in the Bel Marin Keys area of Novato, a fire

dispatcher said.

Fire district spokeswoman Sandy Wargo said scrub brush, palm trees and high grass were burning but the fire was nearly out as of around 3 p.m.

Residents were notified by a phone messaging system that Bel Marin Keys Boulevard was closed, but no structures were threatened, Wargo said.

Fire investigators are on the scene to determine the cause of the blaze, Wargo said.

Firefighters from San Rafael and the Marin County Fire Department also responded, Wargo said.

PG&E also responded to a report of downed power lines in the area but the lines were old and not live, Wargo said.

Oils in the high grass and plants in the marsh caused them to burn, Wargo said.
