SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A paraglider died after crashing into the side of a mountain at Fort Funston in San Francisco on Sunday.

Firefighters say the person fell about 15 feet down the cliff after impact.

Fire dispatchers got the first report of the incident at 3:50 p.m.

Witnesses said the man flew the hang glider directly into a hill without trying to steer away from it.

First responders are not sure whether the man suffered a heart attack or whether he got caught in an updraft of wind.

Battalion Chief Jeff Barden said the man was in his 50s and was hang gliding by himself.
