MILPITAS, Calif. (KGO) -- All northbound lanes of Interstate Highway 680 in Milpitas have reopened Monday night after they were closed for nearly five hours due to a person threatening to jump from the highway's overpass.

At about 9:35 p.m., the lanes were reopened after the individual threatening to jump came down, CHP Officer Ross Lee said.

While the CHP assisted with closing the highway and redirecting traffic, Milpitas police took charge of making contact with the person.

The incident began just before the evening commute, at about 4:40 p.m., causing all of the highway's northbound lanes to be closed south of state Highway 237 and West Calaveras Boulevard.

Officials with Milpitas police were not immediately available for comment.
