Chick-fil-A opens on a Sunday for stranded Atlanta airport passengers

ATLANTA -- Chick-fil-A did something unusual to make the day a little brighter for passengers stranded at the world's busiest airport this weekend: It opened on a Sunday.

The power outage at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport lasted for around 11 hours on Sunday. By 11:30 p.m. ET, mayor Kasim Reed said, about 2,000 people had been fed. He thanked the fast food chain, which is normally closed on Sundays.

The Associated Press reported that airport workers were also passing out Dunkin Donuts and bottled water.

The power outage, which led to at least 1,500 cancelled flights, was caused by an underground fire, according to Georgia Power.
