BART to require proof of payment starting January 1

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Starting January 1, BART will require proof of payment inside the paid area of stations and on-board trains.

Passengers should be prepared to show either a magnetic strip ticket or Clipper card with valid fare.

There will be a one-month grace period when violators will be warned instead of cited.

There will be a $75 fine for adults and $55 for minors. Community service options will also be available.
