There were some evacuations related to the fire. No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.
CAL FIRE had said at about 3 p.m. that the fire was threatening structures near Clayton Road and Via de la Vista in the Alum Rock area.
Dennis Sandoz called in the fire. He said he wasn't packing his go-bags but got the garden hose out just in case.
"I was quite worried. Fortunately, I built a fire breaks, and they prevented the fire from getting really close to my house," Sandoz said.
Fire breaks kept the Clayton Fire at bay of his property but SKY7 captured video of the fire inching toward three backyards.
"I encourage anybody with a home on a hill like this to make an effort to have bare dirt around their house. You know, as much as they can get," Sandoz said.
Driving up Clayton Road different fire crews were parked outside homes for structure protection.
"They did a great job of catching the fire and preventing any structural damage in this immediate area," Sandoz said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
