OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- All lanes on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Oakland on Friday have reopened following a fatal crash near Bay Bridge toll plaza, the California Highway Patrol said.

A death was reported early Friday on the westbound direction of Interstate Highway 80 near the approach to the Bay Bridge, according to the CHP.

At 6:11a.m., ABC7's Sue Hall tweeted the westbound 80 HOV lane closed as a result of the crash, causing major delays from Golden Gate Fields.

As of 7:45a.m., Hall said the sig-alert was cancelled. While there is still a backup, she says traffic conditions in the area are improving.

Commuters were advised to take BART or the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

However, traffic seemed to be light once drivers were at the Bay Bridge toll plaza.

Hall says the coroner arrived to the scene around 6:40a.m.

Officers initially responded shortly before 5 a.m. just west of the MacArthur Maze and junction of Highway 80 with Interstate Highways 580 and 880.
